EASTER : Mardi Gras - Ash Wednesday - Lenten Season

EASTER : Christians celebrate Easter as the resurrection of Christ on the third day after His crucifixion. It is the oldest Christian holiday and the most important day of the church year because of the significance of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the events upon which Christianity is based (1 Corinthians 15:3-4,14). The four Gospels make it clear that Jesus was crucified in conjunction with the Jewish Passover (Matthew 26:17-19; Mark 14:12-16; Luke 22:7-15; John 18:28,39; 1...  Read More...

Why Good Friday?

[Good Friday] is the day the Jesus Christ is crucified on the cross. Remember that the Jewish day started at sunset. Jesus would have been up all night. He went from Passover --> Garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14:32-42) --> Judas kiss (Mark 14:43-52) --> Peaceable Arrest --> Brought before Annas (patriarch High Priest) and Caiaphas High Priest (Luke 22:66-71) --> Peter denies Jesus (John 18:15-18, 25-27) --> Jesus claims “I AM”--> Jesus before Pilate --> Jesus before Herod mocked (Luke 23:6-12 --> Jesus back to Pilate with offer of Barabbas --> Pilate condemns Jesus to flogging and crucifixion on a cross. Surely there is no bleaker moment in human history than when we decided it was expedient to kill our Creator.

Why Good Friday? What the Jewish authorities and Romans did to Jesus was definitely not good (Matthew 26, 27); however, the results of Christ’s death are very good by paying the price we deserved so we could be reconciled to God.! Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” First Peter 3:18 tells us, “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit.” Unlike other religions that just pretend there is no such thing as evil, say if only you meditate right you can escape the illusion of suffering, or if you do enough, Good Friday tells us the truth. Evil really does exist and suffering really does hurt, but God can take even the worst events and make them good. Unlike other religious figures, Jesus doesn`t AVOID SUFFERING and SIN, he absorbs them and transforms them into something good.

(one of my all time favorites!) It’s Friday, but Sunday’s coming by Marshall L. Shepard, Sr., pastor of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in West Philadelphia

It’s FRIDAY, Jesus is praying… Peter is sleeping… Judas is betraying, but SUNDAY’S COMIN!
It’s FRIDAY, Pilate’s struggling…the council is conspiring… the crowd is vilifying… they don’t even know that SUNDAY’S COMIN!
It’s FRIDAY, the disciples are running like a sheep without a shepherd… Mary’s crying… Peter is denying… but they don’t know that SUNDAY’S COMIN!
It’s FRIDAY, the Roman’s beat my Jesus…the roll Him with scars… the crown Him with thorns… but they don’t know that SUNDAY’S COMIN!
It’s FRIDAY, see Jesus walking to Calvary…His blood dripping…His body stumbling…and His Spirit burdened…but you see, it’s only FRIDAY and SUNDAY’S COMIN!
It’s FRIDAY, the world is winning…people are sinning… and evil is grinning.
It’s FRIDAY, the soldiers nail my Savior’s hands to the cross… they nail my Savior’s feet to the cross… and then they raise Him up next to criminals. It’s FRIDAY, but let me tell you, SUNDAY’S COMIN!
It’s FRIDAY, the disciple’s are questioning, “what has happened to their King?”… and the Pharisees are celebrating that their scheming has been achieved, but they don’t know it’s only FRIDAY… SUNDAY’S COMIN!
It’s FRIDAY, He’s hanging on the cross… feeling forsaken by His Father… left alone and dying… Can nobody save Him? OOOH! It’s FRIDAY, but SUNDAY’S COMIN!
It’s FRIDAY, the earth trembles… they sky grows dark… my King yields His Spirit.
It’s FRIDAY, hope is lost… death has won… sin has conquered… and Satan just a laughing.
It’s FRIDAY, Jesus is buried… a soldier stands guard… and a rock is rolled into place… but it’s FRIDAY… It is ONLY FRIDAY… SUNDAY IS COMIN!!!
