Out of My Mind

I was visiting with a friend who is stationed in the military in Kansas.  When I asked "How are things going?", you could just sense him squinting his eyes and wiping his forehead in frustration.  He said, "my greatest battle is in my mind."  One minute, I'm strong... confident... secure.  Another, I'm quickly distracted, disoriented, angry, and don't even seem to have common sense to not step into what I know are traps for me.

We talked at length, shared scripture, and prayed...

What advice would you give him?

my comment is - I hear you!! I am feeling the same way - It's very easy to say to "have faith" and "trust" that God hears your prayers and to "lean on Him".
I am learning that on a DAILY basis and it is NOT easy - but it's the only way to get by... Satan knows my weaknesses and one of those is doubt and BOY is he onto that one - It's a constant struggle but I know my God is SO MUCH stronger than satan and I just have to hold on tighter.

Have no idea exactly what you are facing, but you must take this issue out of your own hands. Out of your "common sense". When I do this I find myself playing with fire because I allow myself to get too close to something that I shouldn't.

No matter how much I hate saying this, Satan is much more powerful, much more crafty, and can take me down at a moments' notice. He is the great deceiver and through deception, he took down all of mankind in the beginning. Even the archangel Michael who is...WOW...way powerful, would not challenge Satan head to head (Jude 9. Instead he relied on God's power.

Take this...whatever it is...out of YOUR hands.

"This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes.
They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" - Jeremiah 17:5-9

Again, give this to God. Relying on your own strength is relying on something that can be weakened. Relying on God's strength is relying on strength that never fails. Just like a tree planted next to a river during a drought. It never has to worry about being thirsty cause...it's next to an unlimited source. Give this over to the "living water".

- Lean not on your own understand (Proverbs 3:5)

- Pray - and this is the most paramount part

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." - Philippians 4:6

"“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”" - Matthew 26:41

"Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up." - James 5:13-15

"“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”" - Luke 21:34-36

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." - Colossians 4:2

Take care and take courage,

Josh

"“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”"

- John 16:33
