It All Starts with God

The next 40 days has the potential to be a life changing faith adventure for you and I.  My prayer is that every person would discover and live out God’s purposes for their lives today.

The McClary Family started day one reading the Purpose Driven Life out load together... "It ALL starts with God."  In normal comic mode at our house, one of the kids read the first line, "It's not about you." and another not realizing that we had started, quickly blurted, "Quit being mean!"

In addition to that thought, we really liked, "The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, peace of mind, or even your happiness."  Amazing how much this thought can change our perspective and attitude.

We talked about what to write in our journals... when we talk it out or write it out it helps us DO what we heard. ~ James 1:22
  • We decided to make a list of some specific ways to remind ourselves that life is really about God, and not me... through the end of the day.
  • We decided to write out a list of things that were on our mind and draw a line through them as we gave them over to God.

One of the items on my list... "wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured." ~ Colossians 4:12

I liked the part that said we did not invent ourselves so we can't know our purpose...only the inventor can know the purpose of their invention. We are so selfish though that we forget. I know I do. My life is not for my's for God's use and glorifying Him. And He specifically created me for my purpose...humbling and daunting bc I don't want to sell Him short. But, "I can do all things THROUGH HIM who gives me strength!" :)

Question To Consider: How can I remind myself today that life is really about living for God, not myself?

Well…I really don’t like reading. And TODAY, I reminded myself that life is really about Him because though my selfish nature is saying, “Josh, just sit back, relax, and watch Peyton Manning”, I know that God wants His body to worship together by (paraphrasing 2 Tim 2:15) ‘studying to show ourselves approved…a workman… rightly dividing the word of truth’. So the next few minutes are His.

My favorite sentence in this chapter is on page 19… “But being successful and fulfilling your life’s purpose are not at all the same issue!”
